So - many of our local government officials accept new pipelines because they bring the promise of jobs. That is usually an un-fullfilled promise, as it actually has a negative long term impact on job growth in Ohio. Our officials should be looking to what COULD come out of the oil and gas production and fight to obtain permanent jobs here in Ohio - like the Shell "Cracker" plant that processed ethane. It would create a huge number of jobs. Instead, the pipeline move the product to Texas processing plants, where the real job growth results. Five guys came out to my property from SAM Inc, a survey firm contracted by Enterprise. Four of the guys were from Arkansas, and the last from Louisiana. They were one a 2 year contract. Okay - we (Ohio) get some benefit - hotels, long term rentals, part of their wages for income taxes - but nothing like permanent local employees that buy houses, pay property taxes, buy vehicles, etcetera. They all seem like nice guys, but guess what - they are transients. They'll finish this job and move on. Ohio is just another job location to them - not their home. See the links below for potential job opportunities brought on by processing plants for ethane. http://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/blog/energy/2012/01/enterprise-ethane-pipeline-is-a-go.html
